In 2009, the Port acquired the building from the City of Toledo, which housed the Toledo Fire and Police Departments and the dispatch center, which affords the Port an opportunity to rehabilitate the building and grounds and use the property for economic development. Work is progressing on the building rehab, and is expected to be finished in the spring of 2010. Below, after port employees carefully deconstructed the administrative section of the building, the materials were recycled and reused to fabricate the new exterior wall.
The interior is being re-finished thanks to the Community Services Consortium and a local 'Youth-Build' program where the students get hands-on experience in the building trades. Once the students have the interior finished, they will begin constructing the park features.

The roof beams are carefully removed so they can be reused. The Admin section of the building is shown on the right. Doors, windows, framing materials and many other components were salvaged to be used to finish the building. Salvaged materials make up most of the new wall the Port crew built.
Demolition is completed and the Port crew is shown installing a new roof.
New siding and a fresh coat of paint make the building look brand-new again.
The pocket park is being designed as a collaborative effort with Port Manager Bud Shoemake, Jon Holbrook Drafting and Design, Sam Briseno, Whitney Clers, and Oregon Coast Aquarium staff, among others. It will be a very beautiful and pleasant spot to take a moment to rest and people-watch.Plans are also in the works for updates to Toledo's Waterfront, including public restrooms and a park pavilion.
